Laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder is very safe now in expert hands. The surgeon inserts a laparoscope through a small incision at the belly button with other fine instruments. The view of the inside can be seen in an outside monitor which helps the surgeon to perform the surgical procedure.
The procedure is done under general anesthesia which usually lasts 30 minutes or less. After the procedure, as the gallbladder is removed, the bile flows from the liver into the small intestine through the common bile duct and has no effect on digestion.
